Samuel Yang,
national elite mountain biker, currently ranked 1st in Singapore and
6th in Asia has made Singapore proud by clinching the champion trophy
for the recent
Penang International Mountain Bike Race and Kiara Mountain
Bike Carnival 2004.
Samuel then went on to take 6th place in the Asian
Mountain Bike Championship 2004
held in Puerto Princesa, the Philippines in October this year, competiting
against some of
the finest mountain bikers in this continent from Japan, China, Hong Kong,
Indonesia, Malaysia,
Thailand, Iran, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Brunei.
For the holiday months of November and December 2004,Samuel will
be conducting a series
of Mountain Bike Improvement Bike Clinics to give back to the sport of mountain
biking
which he feels very passionate about. These clinics held at Bukit Timah Biketrail,
are aimed at
both beginner and advance mountain bikers who want to improve their mountain
biking skills
at one of Singapore's toughest off-road mountain bike terrains.
Available Courses
Beginners Course (4 sessions of 3 hrs
each; total of 12 hours)
1. Bike introduction
2. Basic bike position of descending
3. Basic bike position of ascending
4. Mounting onto bike and dismounting
5. Safely carrying bike
6. Safely pushing of bike
Pre-requisite : Must be able to ride easy off-road terrain at e.g. Pulau Ubin.
Advance Course (4 sessions of
3 hr each; total of 12 hours)
1. Above 6 topics
2. Log hop / Bunny hop
3. Off-chamber riding
4. Trackstand
Pre-requisite : Must be able to ride at more difficult off-road terrain at
e.g. Bukit Timah.
Available Dates
Each course will be conducted only if there is a minimum of 5 and
a maximum of 10 students
who have signed up for the course.
Each group of students will attend 2 consecutive weeks (on Friday and Sunday)
on the
following available dates, subject to instructor’s schedule.
Fridays (Nov - 5,12,19,26 / Dec 3,10,17)
Sundays (Nov 7,14,21,28 / Dec 5,11*,19)
* held on Sat due to Big Bike Bash on Sun
Time Schedule
7.45 am – registration and form filling
8.00 am – course begins
11.00 am – course ends
(Please be considerate to those who are early….and come on time! Also,
don’t forget to
have a full breakfast before you come for the course! Drink plenty of liquids
to hydrate yourself.)
Location and Meeting Point
Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Carpark
Compulsory Equipment
Mountain Bike (well serviced), helmet (approved by instructor), biking
shoes.
Recommended Equipment
Gloves, protective eye wear, water bottles or other hydration equipment,
mosquito repellent, rain jacket, energy bars.
Clinic Fees
* S$20X4 = S$ 80 (Non-SACA / UCI-SACA member)
* S$15X4 = S$ 60 (SACA / UCI-SACA member)
* S$10X4 = S$ 40 (Students with valid student pass)
Payment by cash or cheque made payable to “Singapore Amateur Cycling
Association”.

Completed registration forms / payment of fees (in cash) will be collected
at the clinic.There will be no refund for absentees. The instructor may conduct
