BUKIT
TIMAH MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL IN REVERSE
/ ANTI-CLOCKWISE
Sick of the same old race routes? Wondering where the next MTB race will be
held? Well, in our attempts to bring you a more challenging MTB race season,
we have just the special treat for you MTBing racing junkies out there - the
Bukit Timah Mountain Bike Trail in reverse / anti-clockwise direction!
We have obtained the blessing of NParks to reverse the trail for a limited
period only i.e. from Saturday 27 May (this Saturday) to Sunday 4 June 2006
(i.e. race day). By Saturday 27 May, direction signages should be
up at the major entrances leading into the BT MTB trail.
We appreciate that there is slightly over a week of race practice time for
you to familiarise yourself with the route. However, for those of you who
have raced BT before, you should be rather familiar with the terrain - you
just need to attempt it backwards, bearing in mind the steep uphills and downhills
will now be reversed. And besides, no one will have any unfair advantage over
anyone else (unless you have been secretly training BT in reverse).
On this note, please ride carefully over this
period (especially this weekend) to allow time for bikers
and other users to get used to this change. Your kind assistance is greatly
appreciated in passing the word around so that everyone is aware of the directional
change during the above period! We will be sending out notices to all the
bikegroups and posting it on bike forums. Let's make this a safe and good
change for the enjoyment of all using the biketrail.
If you do not see any signages at any entrances during this period, we would
appreciate your informing us immediately. This could be due to a variety of
reasons e.g. damage caused by weather, mischief etc.
Our trail maintenance crew have been in discussions for a more permanent reversal
of direction (e.g. every 3 or 6 months) and are in the process of ironing
out the details. We would appreciate any feedback concerning a long-term reversal
of BT trail and will forward your suggestions to our crew. Kindly direct all
suggestions and queries to mtb@cycling.org.sg.
