Bukit
Timah BikeTrail Maintenance
Singaporean mountain bikers love to bike….and
talk. However, how often do we come across a conversation relating
to "trail work" or concepts such as designing,
building and upkeeping of biketrails? Do we know who maintains our
bike trails and how much effort goes into it? How many of us know
that the Bukit Timah BikeTrail (“BT Trail”)
is so precious because it runs along the fringe of the last remaining
primary forest of Singapore? Are these mere “ideas”
or can we get into the thick of things and get our hands dirty?
From cradle to the end of its useful life, a trail
requires maintenance. A trail is useful to those
that use it, and mountain bikers are one group of users who can
only stand to gain from well maintained trails.
We are grateful that our BT Trail is currently
maintained by the National Parks Board (“Nparks”).
Occasionally, race organisers would clear the paths before a big
race, or the odd biker or trekker would take the initiative to move
obstacles from harm’s way. Previous trail maintenance sessions
organised by trail loving bikers have no doubt benefited mountain
bikers and broadened their outlook on trail and trail maintenance
in Singapore. We hope to continue this good tradition to offer you
the first BT BikeTrail Maintenance project for the year.
The dates for this year's trail maintenance sessions
are :-
Saturday,
6 March 2004
Sunday, 10 October
